How the test works
Short, honest and adaptive. Here’s what happens behind the scenes.
-
One question at a time
The test adapts to you. Each answer decides the next question, so about 20 questions are enough to find your level. Most people finish in about 8 minutes.
-
The CEFR scale
Results use the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), from A1 to C2: the scale schools, universities and employers use around the world.
-
Six kinds of questions
Spot the mistake, fill the gap, pick the right word, choose the best reply, read a short message and listen to a voice note. Together they cover grammar, vocabulary, reading, listening and natural English.
-
Honest results
We never round your level up to make you feel good. If you’re close to the next level, the result says so.
-
Still in beta
Every question has an estimated difficulty. As more people take the test, real answers fine-tune those estimates and the results get even more precise.
-
No signup
No account and no email needed. We keep only what the test needs, and your name is stored only if you add it to your card or certificate.
-
Is the certificate official?
It records an online test that nobody supervised, so it counts as a self-assessment. It’s a good way to show your level, but it doesn’t replace exams like IELTS or Cambridge.
